honestly though why does no one in thedas seem to understand the concept of a school for mages. not a prison, a school. where they get taught how to control their magic but the chantry isn’t the one imprisoning them, they’re not being watched by people ordained to kill them 24/7, they can see their families, etc
meanwhile vivienne’s going on about “no viable alternatives” to a templar-run circle and i’m sittin here like
??????
Erm, that’s sort of what Vivienne is advocating.
She is against the complete and total freedom that the Mage Rebellion wants because there needs to be some establishment for them to learn to control themselves.
Basically, she thinks that the entire concept of the Circle; A location where mages hone their magical talents under the watchful eye of people who intend only to protect and serve, isn’t something that should be completely abandoned, just refined and retooled, because she believes that the concept had a purpose.
It may not sound like that’s what she advocates, but some later game events suggest that.
And I think that’s about as close to you get in the game besides the College of Enchanters thing Fiona might create.
vivienne does support a school for mages. she supports the circle of magi as they are, with just a few tweaks. freedom is bad, she says, because what happens when mages take over? when they lose control? innocent people get hurt.
my point is that no mage rights activist is contesting that.
instead, i was saying how the chantry needs to completely be eradicated from the circles.
spoilers below the cut.
